Support of Young Scientists

The support of young scientists is one of the most prominent tasks of the DGDR. This is achieved in several ways, namely via reduced registration fees for DGDR meetings, stipends for DGDR meetings as well as other related meetings, and also via financial support for exchange visits between different laboratories.

a. DGDR meetings

Members of the DGDR pay a reduced fee for DGDR meetings. Furthermore, a certain number of stipends will be awarded to young scientists, based on the quality of their abstracts.

up to 500,- €

b. Additional meetings for which support may be requested

In addition to the DGDR meetings, travel grants to other meetings focussing on DNA repair may be provided as well. Eligible persons are PhD students and "young" postdocs (up to three years after PhD), who are members of the DGDR, and who submitted an abstract. Applications including CV and abstract should be submitted to the President of the DGDR (Caroline Kisker); decisions are made by the DGDR Board. It is expected that the awardee will write a report after the meeting for the homepage of the DGDR (if possible including a photo!).

up to 500,- €

c. Support of inter-laboratory visits by young scientists

To support the scientific exchange between laboratories, financial support will be provided to cover travel expenses.

  • In exceptional, urgent cases the DGDR Board may decide at short notice.
  • Required are a CV and a short outline of the research project.
  • The DGDR can support up to five exchange visits per year, providing about 500,- € each.
